Small-scale modular test
The pilot test is performed under real conditions on a small portion of the area to be treated (a few injection points). This ensures that the results are 100% accurate and realistic. While not strictly required for small areas (100–200 m²), it is strongly recommended for larger surfaces. It can often provide the ultimate proof of the effectiveness of the selected remediation concept. Furthermore, the results are used as the basis for the design of the full-scale remediation and for validating:
- the most effective products/reagents
- the correct dosages
- the radius of influence depending on the zones or soil layers to be treated (a key parameter)
- the realistically achievable and actionable objectives of the project
- all missing physico-chemical soil parameters required at this stage to determine the appropriate degradation pathways
A small investment for big savings
The results of the pilot test make it possible to adjust injection distances (ROI), validate reagents and dosages, determine the appropriate injection parameters and optimize the efficiency of the entire remediation. Hence, we can realize savings around 20 to 50% of the total soil remediation budget.
Fast: on average one week
Depending on the number of injections chosen and the depth of the contamination, pilot testing has a fast turnaround time. Often there is no need to interrupt ongoing activities or only for a few days.
Part of remediation already performed
Depending on the extent of the contamination, the pilot test can already treat a significant portion of the contamination. Hence, the costs for the pilot test are not lost, but are deducted from the total remediation cost.
